Nuff said.
Astronomy! Lilith was excited to have such a class. First of all, it was allowing her to stay up a lot later than usually she was allowed. Second, she loved stars, and the chilly night air. So of course this class was awesome.
Lilith followed her fellow classmates up the Astronomy Tower, and they came out to a nice, open 'classroom'. There were telescopes all around; she chose one and stood by it right as the professor began to speak.
Rather odd man, she thought with a grin. At least he has a good sense of humour. Then he asked them to introduce themselves. Suddenly, it was her turn. "Erm, I'm Lilith, and I.. er.. I like cats," she finished lamely. Oh well, at least she tried.
Before she knew it, he was asking them to try a new spell. Lilith lifted her leg a bit to take her wand out from its home in her sock. Pointing it at the telescope, she tried, "Too-lee-luh-tum." Apparently it wasn't right; the telescope wobbled, and the lense seemed to fog up. No, that definitely couldn't have been right. Lilith listened to the rest of the class, then tried again. "Tulilatum!" The telescope was clear!
Eagerly Lilith looked into the sky--she had never used a telescope before. Everything was so beautiful, so.. detailed. She sighed dreamily. "Oh!" She had just spotted Jupiter! Lilith opened up her notebook and scribbled a quick picture of Jupiter, then under it she wrote, "Jupiter. It is big and shiny, orange and yellow-ish.. stripeys.. There's a big dot on it."
Okay, Mars time. Looking around for a few moments--and getting distracted by pretty stars--she finally found Mars. She drew a picture of it too, then wrote under it, "Mars. It is red, except there are white patched on the top and bottom. Ice caps?" Without much else to say, Lilith moved on--to the moon.
The moon blazed its image into her mind as she stared. When she moved to copy it to her notebook, she was temporarily blinded. Blink, blink. There, now she could see. Soon there was the third subject. "The moon. It is much prettier close up, and really bright. Tons of craters. I wonder what it would be like to go there."
Lilith smiled. Now that she was done with her assignment, she could start looking for other things in the great, big sky..
Lilith was having a very good evening. She had been chatting with friends old and new on the Hogwarts Express, and she was very glad she wouldn't be starting this new school alone. In fact, knowing she had those few friends, and the posibility of making new ones as well made her very eager to get to school.
Of course, after she had read all of her textbooks (to be fair, it was more of a skim, and she could barely remember a thing--she hoped there was some potion that enhanced memory), she was already very excited to be Sorted into her House, where she would meet her 'family' for the next seven years.
Everyone was getting off the train. It was a mad dash, students bursting forth from the exits with their trunks, some with their owls, or cats (and boy, would Lilith miss Xena, her cat and snuggle buddy back at home with her overly-proud Muggle mother).
"Firs' years, firs' years over here!" came a loud voice. Lilith tilted her pink head before looking around for the source of the voice--and she didn't have to look very hard. Before her was a giant man, whose picture she recalled from a book, but whose name she had forgotten. She made a mental note to try to befriend him later--if she could remember.
Lilith joined the large crowd of first years being herded by the large man. Everyone was, of course, bubbling with excitement. She smiled to herself. Nearly all of these people looked nice. Yes, this would be a very good year, she decided.
Oh! She had been off in a tangent world in her head again, living a happy life surrounded in love and laughter, her real body on auto-pilot. Lilith realised they were now all in pairs in small boats, being tugged magically across the inky Great Lake. And on the other bank in the distance was the huge castle. Lilith gasped.
"It's.. b-beautiful," she said through chattering teeth, unsure if it was from the cold or the excitement.
And so the first years were brought into the Great Hall. Warm air greeted her, her cheeks flushing pink. It was more amazing than she ever could have imagined.
Like sheep once more, the first years were led to form a line--the Sorting was coming!
Lilith watched as her peers went up, one by one, to wear the Sorting Hat--which was, the poor thing, ratty and patched, but Lilith found it magnificent. It had, after all, witnessed hundreds of years go by. It would certainly be very smart, and put her in the right place--right?
"Tempest, Lilith!"
Oh! That was her name! Proudly, Lilith practically skipped upto the stool and sat carefully upon it. She looked over the Tables briefly--the Slytherins looked mischivous, the Hufflepuffs were all smiling, the Ravenclaws listening attentively, and the Gryffindors looked about to roar their happiness for anyone to join--and then the Hat was placed upon her bright head, covering her eyes. It smelled, oddly, wonderful.
"Come on, Hat, place me where I belong best!" Lilith reached up and tugged on her hair as always, wishing very much so that she would be placed in the same House as at least one of her friends.
But whichever House she ended up in, whichever the Hat believed best for her, would shape her to be a great witch. She just knew it.
